Issue with MacBook 2018 models with 10.14 Mojave

Good Evening,

I understand that it takes time to complete development on 5.x software to enable functionality on these new 2018 models. Do we have an estimate to when we will see an update that would allow 2018 MacBook Pros to function natively and not leveraging airplay's workaround?

nicolas06 10-04-2018 06:36 AM

+1 As the 4.3 very is useless, very bad screen resolution.

AlbanRampon 10-04-2018 12:33 PM

Hello,

The fix has been verified and we have asked for its distribution.

Kind regards,
Alban

Kolt 10-05-2018 07:20 AM

Thanks Alban! Do you know when this fix might be released?

nicolas06 10-05-2018 07:57 AM

Hi Alban, Thanks for the feedback, can't wait.

Good Morning,

Just to clarify, is the fix you're referring to something that DisplayLink will be distributing via drivers or are you waiting on a MacOS patch/change at this point?

I'm a little confused at what the issue is and would be interested if you could share some additional details about the nature of the problem. Is there a manual work-around?

Hi Alban, got an ETA on this?

Wozzy 10-10-2018 11:53 AM

Does the 5.0.1 fix this?

Does not work for me either.

Very frustrating....

Kolt 10-10-2018 02:47 PM

Still broken for me with 5.0.1

Wozzy 10-11-2018 07:55 PM

@AlbanRampon any news of 2018 MBP fix

scorch968 10-11-2018 10:44 PM

Hi Alban,

I hope you are doing well. Just checking in on this issue to see if 5.0.1 included this fix? I did not see if listed in the release notes as fixing this issue, but I also did not see the 2018 MacBook issue listed there any longer as a known issue. Can you clarify for me if this fixed this issue

Edit: Strike that...I did indeed still find it in the 5.0.1 release notes.

segap 10-13-2018 10:27 AM

Same issue here ,

Even the 4.3 beta 6 drivers don't work for me. Can only mirror the display which is very annoying.
Has anyone had success with either the 4.3 beta or the other ones ?

scorch968 10-15-2018 01:35 AM

Hi Alban,

Just checking in on an update for Mojave support on the 2018 MacBook Pro.

mostof 10-22-2018 04:47 PM

I wish someone would reply to us. I am seriously considering buying another dock. Been waiting too long for this.

If you do buy another dock, please let us know what it is.

I am desperate for a resolution this issue but want to avoid junking my expensive investment in Displaylink technology and going down a new route that may also have problems.

AlbanRampon 10-24-2018 12:54 PM

We have escalated again this week asking for them to distribute the fix. A regression might have been found during the validation from their side.

jaywhy 10-24-2018 01:11 PM

any chance you have a beta release we could test here?

we have about 25+ users unable to dock and we are also unable to upgrade users from Sierra because of all this mess.

thanks!

Grx 10-29-2018 09:16 AM

Is there an update?
Or is there a way we can implement the fix by ourselves?

AlbanRampon 10-29-2018 03:04 PM

We don't know of a way for users to correct the OS themselves.
We keep on pushing and we're not certain what the hold up is on at this stage.

yowzadave 10-29-2018 05:07 PM

Alban, when you say "We keep on pushing and we're not certain what the hold up is", what does that mean exactly? Is there some non-DisplayLink party that is keeping updates from being pushed? Anyhow, eager for the fix whenever it is ready! Thanks

michaelOz 10-29-2018 11:10 PM

Mojave

Hi Alban

Thanks for keeping us updated. I upgraded to Mojave as workaround to try to get past the issues with v.10 - only to find that there are issues with Mojave. At least I now get a picture on my multiple screens and not just a black screen we have made some progress.

Hopefully the significant amount of interest in rectifying the issue with DisplayLink and MacBook will see the team prioritise its rectification.

Appreciate the work that you and the broader team are putting into this.

Thanks!

Youtube does not play

Hello,

I am also using MBP 2018 with mojave.
Have you had any issue playing youtube?
When I play youtube without connection of Displaylink, it works well.
However, whenever I connect it to my MBP, it keeps showing loading signal, but never played.

Please check this issue as well.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I have this identical issue when using 4.3b6 Airplay solution.

Issue is not just on YouTube, but on any embedded video such as Bloomberg etc.

wolfskin 10-30-2018 06:37 PM

just installed Mac OSX 10.14.1 and installed the Displaylink existing drivers 5.something on a MacBook pro 15 inch 2018. Still the same issues; black cursor only on external screens.

so people; do not get your hopes up on a this OSX software update alone ... I still hope that DisplayLink releases a update in the next 24 hours that fixes the issue on 10.14.1

Thanks for letting us know.

We really need a fix for this on the 2018 MBP and what about the new MacBook Air DisplayLink? Will that also have the same issue?

Same here but much bigger numbers, around 350 users still on Sierra due to how bad High Sierra has been with DisplayLink. Those users who are on High Sierra are either stuck on 10.3.3 or just having to suck it up that they can't use DL as its awful via AirPlay.

Also getting lots of new 2018 MacBooks that still can't use DL on Mojave!

The "them"...is that Apple your talking about?

Grx 10-31-2018 08:58 AM

Can confirm that the latest macbook update did not solve the DL display issue.
Currently on 10.14.1, and the displays still show a black screen with cursor only.

I really hope that it will be fixed soon, as I now have a DL "workstation" that's pretty much useless without the monitors working.

ericpark 10-31-2018 05:00 PM

Thank you for sharing this.

Hopefully, they can solve this issue as well.

I have a dual monitor setup with my 2018 MBP with Mojave 10.14.1, going through a Dell Universal Dock - D6000. I have the described problem on the DisplayLink driver download page and use the v4.3 Beta 6 driver as the workaround. Essentially this gives me one monitor that extends my display, and the other that mirrors my MBP screen but is blurry and doesn't use the full display. I have to keep my laptop open for this setup to work consistently. It's a less than optimal setup, but is getting me by.

@AlbanRampon can you give us any insight on when the next update to resolve this display issue will be available?

AlbanRampon 11-05-2018 10:15 AM

Good morning,

It's not possible for us to give a promise on a release dates for a third party.

But, the macOS 10.14.2 Beta 1 is now out and fixes the 2018 model issue. Some users also confirmed.

Kind regards,
Alban

iweron 11-05-2018 12:33 PM

I can confirm the dock station is now working on my Mac pro 2018 with Mojave 10.14.2 Beta (18C31g). I am using 3 monitors with 2K resolution. No more black screens. :)

wolfskin 11-05-2018 01:23 PM

I can Confirm this here to; MBpro 2108 15" i9; 10.14.2 beta (18C31g) and Displaylink driver v5.0.1

Cross my fingers that the beta is otherwise stable for me ... I dread installing beta´s for a reason ... but this issue was really disruptive to my productivity/flexibility

I can confirm Mojave 10.14.1 (release version) now works with Displaylink driver 5.0.1 on Macbook Pro 2018.

2 Displaylink monitors and 1 directly connected 4K USB-C monitor.

rudders 11-05-2018 11:50 PM

Working !

And I can also confirm that MacBook Pro 2018 with 5.0.1 drivers appears to work fine now as of MacOS Mojave 10.14.1.

mostof 11-06-2018 01:45 AM

Driver version 5.0.1 on Mac OS Mojave 10.14.1 didn't cut it for me. When I upgraded to 10.14.2 Beta 1, it worked.

justin88 11-06-2018 08:43 AM

10.14.2 (18C31g) doesn't work for me with 5.0.1 driver.

Running a 2018 Macbook Pro 15".

My mate with a 2018 Macbook 13" gets a duplicate display across all three screens but cannot login as it crashes back to the login screen immediately upon entering in his password.

Still not quite there it would seem.

UPDATE:

I stand corrected; evidently in the Security Settings the Display Link extension was blocked on startup. Enabled that, all works now. woohoo!

Kolt 11-06-2018 08:48 AM

10.14.2 (18C31g) works fine for me with 5.0.1 driver. Except I'm missing my favorite resolution 3008 x 1692 which my display supports but is not available in system prefs.

Running a 2018 Macbook Pro 15".
