ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock 0A33970 with 2560x1440 monitor

My 2560x1440 monitor works fine on a desktop PC.

This dock (really more like a USB 3.0 to dual DVI adapter) works fine with my 1920x1200 monitor.

But this dock won't recognize my 2560x1440 monitor/the 2560x1440 resolution doesn't get detected. This problem happens with NVidia Optimus Mode and Discreet Video modes on my ThinkPad W520, and this happens with Windows 7 x64 SP1 or Windows 8 Release Preview.

Here's the USB 3.0 Dock listings:

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/itemdetail...62D739642CFC27
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/prod...DocID=PD023761

and the Displaylink chip inside is from the DisplayLink DL-3900, described here:
http://www.displaylink.com/usb3/index.php
http://www.extremetech.com/deals/130...ort-replicator

and should be capable of driving up to 2560x1600 resolutions.

I've tried the latest (and only) Lenovo driver from the CD that shipped with the unit June 2012, which matches the V10606 version available online here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guid...DocID=UM014961

I also tried 6.3 and 7 B1 from here:
http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php

Any ideas?

I will attempt to upload Displaylink diagnostics from Windows 7 x64 SP1 and Windows 8 Release Preview, in case this will help.

A similar post appears at Lenovo's support forum here:

Thank you!

See attached (DisplayLink Support Files collected from Windows 8 Release Preview Build 8400).

And a second upload with a different monitor file in place, showing full 2560x1440 resolution, also on Windows 8.

Here's the monitor's exact settings, from a desktop computer with NVidia 560Ti:

No chance to achieve such resolution with this product, it is NOT capable of 2560x1440 resolution at all. It uses the DL-3900 chip but cannot display 2560x1440. Don't waste your time with this product

Only future fujitsu PR08 will be able to display 2560x1440 but only in Displayport
trust me, I have tried tons of those devices already....

there is 2 dvi port on the dock , only one of them is dual link, have you tried both? I plan on buying this as well, please update your finding when you can, thanks.

DisplayPort is the only output that will support this. There is now a Startech adapter available with DisplayLink inside:

hi, i've a vaio Z with expresscard slot but no native usb 3.0, is it possible to use dl-3900 dock on a expresscard to usb 3.0 ?

Wim 07-24-2012 09:34 AM

Yes, you can use a USB 3.0 express card. Just make sure you have the latest express card drivers installed for the chipset. You can find the driver at http://kb.displaylink.com/315.

I wound up getting this DisplayLink to DVI adapter to use while waiting for this USB 3.0 to DisplayLink issue to be resolved (if it gets resolved):
