MacBook Pro 13 inc with blank screen
 

I have a 2011 macbook pro 13 inch with a Dell Ultrasharp 21.3 monitor attached via displaylink. The Mac sees the screen but the screen is black or rather blank. I turn the screen off and the back on and I get the message" entering power save mode". Why?
