How To Determine Which Software is Forcing DisplayLink

I am not sure why, but DisplayLink is being forced on me by one of my two external monitors (I assume). I have no interest in running DisplayLink but if I uninstall it, the native Windows extended monitor support does not recognize the monitors.

So, two questions:

1. How do I determine where the DisplayLink dependency is coming from?
2. How to uninstall DisplayLink and use Windows native capabilities.

Thanks

Hi,

What monitor do you have and how is it connected?

Thanks,
James

Monitors

James, I have two monitors:
  • ASUS - ProArt connected through the VGA of my Dell E6410
  • DELL - E173FP connected via VGA through a HIS Multi-View II USB Adapter

I have problems whether all or any are connected. e.g. Apps resizing themselves to the smaller monitor size.

Everything worked perfectly fine before DisplayLink was installed.

Hi,

Do you mean you are being offered a DisplayLink update via Windows Update?

If you don't want DisplayLink then you need to disconnect the HIS adapter and remove the software.

However this will leave you with only one monitor working. You need the DisplayLink software installed to use the HIS adapter.

Thanks,
James

Thanks for the clarification on the source of DisplayLink. When I first installed the HIS adapter, it was happy to use the native Windows capabilities. Somewhere along the way an update for the HIS device must have triggered the DisplayLink requirement. I'll followup with HIS.
