Main laptop screen goes blank when displaylink monitor connected

I've had this problem for a while now and just not had time to try and get it working but would really like to get this sorted as not having the second screen is slowing me down a lot.

Computer:
Dell L702X XPS Laptop
16GB Ram
Nvidia GT555M

This Problem occurs within 10 seconds of me plugging the displaylink monitor in, both screens will come on to begin with and then the main laptop screen will shut off (still have content on it but shut down as if it was asleep)

I have a Lenovo USB monitor which uses displaylink and a plugable USB 3 graphics card, both produce the same problem and are unusable

Only way to get the main screen back is to remove the displaylink monitor

This issue has been present for the last few months since an automatic update on windows I believe. Tried older and newer versions of graphics drivers and USB 3 drivers

I've attached the logs from the support tool hopefully someone will be able to help!

Hi,

Can you try downloading and running the tool from this URL?
http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=178

Please use it to disable the Nvidia service which I suspect is causing the issue you describe.

Thanks,
James

The first time I tried this it seemed to work however subsequently I've continued to experience the same problem... Any further thoughts?

Hi,

This is likely to be happening as the Nvidia service has started itself.

The work around is to disable the Nvidia service (called nvsvc) and set it to manual start up. (Open the start menu, type in services, hit enter, select NVIDIA Display Driver Service, right click on it and change "Startup type" to Manual). This will prevent it disabling DisplayLink displays.

Thanks,
James
