2.4 beta 1 Problems

Running mid 2012 MBA with centre VGA display connected via the Thunderbolt port and two other VGA displays on Displaylink via a USB hub.

2.4 beta 1 appears to have finally fixed the display arrangement persistence issue. Repeated reboots now always result in correctly positioned displays.

However:

1. when putting the Mac into sleep only the centre display switches off. The other two (displaylink) stay powered showing a black screen.
2. When reawakened, all previously open application windows are moved to the centre (non displaylink) display.

No other problems or crashes so far.

Any fixes coming soon?

Thank you akprasad,

Are the two DisplayLink screens connected to two USB to VGA adapters? Do you know which model?

Is the second issue something new in the beta or also happening with earlier drivers?

Regards,
Carlo

The two DisplayLink screens are using ClimaxDigital CUH195 adaptors as found here:

The issue with open applications moving to non DisplayLink screen after wake is totally new. Has never previously occurred since using these adaptors on all software updates since 2012/Mountain Lion.

Thank you we'll try to reproduce this issue

Hi akprasad,

We can't reproduce either issue on the 2.4b1 version.

Can you please send us the output of the debug tool? Please capture it immediately after waking from sleep when you've seen both issue 1 and issue 2.

The log tool is at http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=269
You can attach the logs here or send them through http://www.displaylink.com/support/ask_question.php

Thank you,
Carlo

Error logs are attached.

Fault 2 (open windows moving to centre screen) has not recurred since my initial testing. Perhaps the problem has fixed itself after a few reboots or I may have imagined it.

Fault 1 (non sleeping screens) is definitely there and should be in these logs.

Another intermittent fault is that broad black lines appear on the edges of one of the screens after waking. I think this issue has been addressed in another post as being solved by a forthcoming update to Yosemite.

Thank you akprasad,

We can reproduce a non sleeping screens issue.

I just want to make sure it's the same issue you are seeing, otherwise we may have two different issues.
Can you confirm that the screens remain powered only when "display sleep" is triggered?
This is when the specific timeout set in the Energy Saving settings occurs or when display sleep is forced through a hot corner or other means.
Instead when you manually set the whole Mac to sleep all screens should power down correctly.

Can you please confirm this?

Cheers,
Carlo

Carlo,

You are correct. The screens remain powered only when sleep is activated by a hot corner or when the energy saving timer is reached.

The problem does NOT occur when I select sleep manually from the Apple icon on the menubar.

I had not noticed this difference in behaviour. Thank you for pointing it out.

Good it's the same issue. The fix is going to be in the next release.

Thank you,
Carlo
