Windows 10 and usb headset disappearing
I have a Surface 3 (not pro) and a coworker has a Surface pro 2, both have windows 10 and we are both seeing the same issue. when I undock my machine for ~5 minutes or more and redock the usb headset (Jabra in this case with updated drivers) does not function again until a reboot. It shows in audio settings, but tests don't work and in device manager it no longer shows in the Audio inputs and outputs section. That seems to be a clear indicator of if the headset will function or not for communication tools like Skype.
I have win 10, just got today's windows updates and am running displaylink 7.9 M2. Also, my coworker is using a Targus branded dual display dock, and I am using a Thinkpad version. Both act the same and we even tried a USB 2 cable to test that theory. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have. Thanks! Eric UPDATE: I connected a different headset (Plantronics) and it acts the same. I had both the Jabra and the Plantronics connected disconnected the dock. When one disappears, so does the other. The only mic and speaker left in the Audio Inputs and Outputs section of device manager are the Intel SST WDM mic and speakers (surface built ins). Also at least on my last try it looks like a reboot is the only fix not even a shut down (Hyberboot?). |
Hi,
USB headsets are routed through the hub in the dock rather than through the DisplayLink chip. I would recommend checking in with the dock manufacturer to see if there is an updated version of hub firmware available. Thanks, James |
