DisplayLink dock appears as a mass storage device

I recently tried to move up to Windows 10 32-bit from Windows 7 32-bit on my Dell Vostro 3500 laptop, and had it running, but there were printer driver problems, and my Kensington DisplayLink box stopped working. I since read that that my rather old DisplayLink dock (Part K33926, Serial no A1012A000952) will not work on any system later than Windows 7. (Is that true? Could it be persuaded to work with Windows 10?)

There is a mechanism provided for reverting to the previous OS, so I did that and am again running Windows 7. However, the DisplayLink box continues not to work. Following your helpful "Debugging issues on Windows with DisplayLink" I see that the device appears in the Device Manager as a 'USB device' (under DVD/CD-Rom drives) and appears in the system as a mass storage device; there are no USB Display adaptors appearing. I have tried using different USB ports, to no effect. I do not have a different USB cable with the right fitting for the dock. Before trying to acquire one, I thought I would ask if the symptoms I am observing indicate what the problem might be.

Hello John,
This is correct that your Kensington sd400v is not supported on Windows 10.
You can see how some other members have gone round the Kensington auto-installer feature in the following thread: Problems using latest software with Kensington Universal Docking station (sd400v)
Kind regards,
Alban

Problem solved

Thank you Alban. I followed the instructions in the thread you pointed me at and my Kensington sd400 started working again. :)

John
