Streaming apps will NOT display video!
 
FIrst the specs: MacBookPro M3 Max, 128GB (1512 x 982), WavLink box driving an LG UltraWide monitor (3440 x 1440) and an HP P274 (1920 x 1080). Monitors are both connected with the HDMI cables to the WavLink. The WavLink is connected to the MBP via an Anker dongle that gives me the fastest connection currently known to man. I just removed the DisplayLink software I was running, and installed what I think is the latest version (1.11). The OS is Sequoia 15.2.

Now the problem: I can't see videos playing from ANY streaming service on ANY of the monitors. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple, and finally determined that the problem lies somewhere in the DisplayLink software. However, turning off DisplayLink is NOT a viable solution, as it then limits me to the internal monitor for video display. This is (far as I can tell) strictly a streaming problem - YouTube.com videos play just fine.

This began recently. Dunno if it's an OS thing, or some other incompatibility, but again, the symptoms and attempts to find an answer suggest that it's a DisplayLink glitch.

I need a fix for this, like yesterday.

Can anybody help me out here?

The behavior you describe is expected due to a macOS limitation, as DisplayLink describes here --> https://support.displaylink.com/know...y-on-mac-while

With that said, some have reported in this forum that disabling hardware graphics acceleration within the Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser can sometimes produce a different result.

Disable Hardware Acceleration (Chrome browser)

1. Start the Chrome browser
2. Click on the three vertical dots located on the top-right corner of the application window
3. From the context menu that appears, click on ‘Settings’
4. From within the ‘Settings’ window, click on the ‘System’ entry in the list on the left-hand side.
5. Click to toggle the ‘Use hardware acceleration when available’ option to OFF
6. Close the Chrome browser, and then reopen the application

Disable Hardware Acceleration (Firefox browser)

1. Start the Firefox browser
2. Click on the three horizontal lines located on the top-right corner of the application window
3. From the context menu that appears, click on ‘Settings’
4. The ‘General’ section of the application will be displayed by default. Scroll down to the ‘Performance’ section.
5. Click to remove the checkmark from ‘Use recommended performance settings’
6. Once the checkmark is removed, a new option will appear named ‘Use hardware acceleration when available’. Click to remove the checkmark from this option.
7. Close the Firefox browser, and then reopen the application

Fixed!
 
Thanks for the tip! I disabled hardware acceleration on Chrome, restarted the browser, and now it works.

It does make me wonder what good hardware acceleration does, if it won't work with streaming video.
