MBP M4 Pro. ?display (3) 2010 27” Apple Displays?

Greetings World.

I’m not familiar with DisplayLink technology, but feel there is hope in moving from “2 external displays maximum” per Apple to 3 of my trusty old 27” Apple displays w/ MiniDisplay Ports (tech specs here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/112620)

Please share:

How do I hook these up to a MBP with what dock?

Thank you.

(I do have mini display to usb c adaptors)

You do not mention which specific docking station you are considering, so I unfortunately I cannot be specific.

I can say that StarTech makes a full-size male to mini-DisplayPort female adapter --> https://www.startech.com/en-us/cables/dp2mdpmf6in that can be used to connect the 'captive' mini-DisplayPort cable from the Apple display to a standard full-size DisplayPort output.

If you have a docking station that supports three DisplayPort video outputs and uses DisplayLink technology to drive some of the displays you could use that in conjunction with the aforementioned adapter to connect the three Apple displays to your computer.

An example of such a product would be the Plugable UD-ULTC4K --> https://plugable.com/products/ud-ultc4k

The UD-ULTC4K uses the video output from the host computer to drive one of the displays (the 'Alt Mode' output) and a DisplayLink chip to drive the two remaining displays. The dock offers three DisplayPort outputs, so you would need three of the StarTech adapters in order connect your displays.

To be clear, I haven't tested this nor can I guarantee it will work as intended. I would suggest contacting Plugable directly in order to get their input prior to moving forward (should you choose to do so) --> https://plugable.com/pages/support
