Screen sharing stop occasionally?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

Recently this issue starts happening a few times a week. The screen sharing stops with this error message "Your screens have been stopped by the system" (see attached).

My Mac mini has plenty of available storage so I suspect something to do with file handles limit.

All I need to do is attached the HDMI cable, switch monitor input to that, then toggle the display in DisplayLink and the screen sharing is re-enabled.

I wonder if anyone have encountered the same issue?

Thanks

You can contact us in two ways:
Firstly by using instructions under this link.
The other way is to use the support tab in DisplayLink Manager app for macOS.

I am having exact same problem with my system. I wonder if you were ever able to resolve it? Screenshot attached.

Hello hstiwana,

Thank you for reaching out.
Our tests show that macOS behaves unpredictably when the amount of free space falls below 16GB of free disk space, so we recommend that you keep space above this threshold.

If you want to send us some more information on your case, please follow these steps.

Yeah, I’ve seen this exact issue pop up with Monterey/Ventura and DisplayLink – especially with Apple Silicon + Wavlink combos. It’s not always storage – sometimes it’s the system killing the DisplayLink process when resource thresholds get weird (file handles, RAM pressure). Try keeping >16GB free and reset display permissions in System Settings > Privacy > Screen Recording. Also check launchd logs for clues.

I added a tiny script to auto-toggle DisplayLink when it drops – hacky, but saves me mid-call. Let me know if you want it ;)

Hi mjaroch,

Sorry for not replying earlier. I didn't get any email notification of new posts on this thread!

Anyway, I ended up clearing out my boot drive to increase the amount of free space available. Now the problem doesn't occur any more.

My question is why the required free space be so large at 16GB? I think this limitation should be documented so users don't have to search the internet or this forum for answers. The error message should include the space limit, otherwise it's a game of trial & error.

Hello AlexHung,

When it comes to required free disk space, this is a certain requirement of mac OS to ensure smooth running of system processes.
