The 'No Monitor' issue: issue & system detail & temporary "fix"

3 Attachment(s)
I have a MacBook Pro driving 2 24" Dell monitors through a dock via DisplayPort (system detail below). When waking up from sleep, my system almost always loses one or both monitors, blanking them and popping up the screen sharing picker asking me how I want to use 'No Monitor'.

Steps I've taken to fix
  • Deleted and reinstalled DisplayLink Manager latest version 1.12.3 using the official tools
  • Searched for firmware updates for all involved hardware (there are none)
  • Tried other MacBook Pro USB-C ports
  • Swapped out USB-C cables
  • Swapped out DisplayPort cables
  • Swapped out dock (started with Targus, switched to Wavlink)

None of these addressed the issue.

The only "fix" currently working
With your system running and your dock connected via USB-C:
  1. Power off the dock
  2. Disconnect DisplayPort cables
  3. Power on the dock
  4. Connect DisplayPort cables
At this point your monitors should be properly recognized and working. Until the system goes to sleep again.

I'm having to do this very frequently, the monitors are dropped 95% of the time the system goes to sleep. This applies to both the Wavlink and Targus docks.

System Overview
  • 16" MacBook Pro M3 November 2023 running macOS Sequoia 15.5 & DisplayLink Manager 1.12.3 Build 81
  • 2x Dell U2312HM 24" monitors
  • Wavlink Ultra 5K Dock model WL-UG69DK1 Rev.A
  • Targus 4K Docking Station model DOCK180

I have the system profile .zip generated by the DisplayLink Support Tool, but I get an 'entity too large' error when trying to upload and attach to this post. Your file guidelines state 250mb is the limit for .zip files, this one is only 21.9mb, no idea why it's failing. Meanwhile I'm attaching some related screenshots.

I'm hoping this information leads to a quick fix! Dealing with this issue multiple times throughout the workday is a real drag, to put it mildly.

Having the same problem.
Coming out of Lock Screen one will say No Monitor.
Fix has been to unplug monitor and plug power back in and displaylink will show it correctly.

Mack book M3.

Thanks

I was having the same issue on my M1 mini with a CalDigit TS3 Plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock. Plugging the DisplayLink into a USB port on the mini instead of the Dock solved the problem.

I'm having a similar issue with my M3 Macbook Pro, but with a twist (most of the time)
OS 15.5
DisplayLink 1.12.3

While sometimes i have a blank screen, other times it will detect them, but the resolution is super funky and zoomed in. Meaning, my entire monitor will display maybe the top corner of the desktop (maybe what would usually be about 5 inches across on the screen) but zoomed in and taking up the whole display. So, if my desktop has a folder that's visible, that folder will be around 4 inches wide and the quality is super low. When this happens, my only fix seems to be unplugging the DisplayPort cables from the back of my hub and plugging them back in.

Oddly, today I had the black screen issue and I couldn't get ANYTHING back on my displays no matter what I did. I even swapped out different hubs. I finally found a Dell hub that worked. Unfortunately the resolution issue persists.

Still need a fix after trying config and latest driver

Almost every time I come out of locked screen I lose one of the monitors where it doesn't know what type it is.
Quick resolution is to unplug the monitor and it will fix itself.
