Lag and freezing issues with M4 MacBook + dock Dell D6000

Hi everyone,

I’m having a really frustrating issue with my DisplayLink setup and I’m hoping someone here has experienced the same thing or found a workaround.

I’m using a MacBook M4 connected to a Dell D6000.

Whenever I try to use the MacBook touchpad to scroll a page on the external monitor, the action becomes extremely laggy — it almost freezes for a second, like the system can’t keep up.

The mouse scroll wheel works perfectly, so the problem only happens when using the built-in touchpad.

Other times, the external monitor completely freezes, and I need to disconnect and reconnect the dock to get it working again.

Has anyone else seen this random lag/freezing with DisplayLink on M4 Macs? Any tips or settings I should check?

Hi guilherm,

Sorry to hear about this problem.
What is your monitor brand, model, screen resolution and refresh rate?
On top of that, are you on the latest DisplayLink Manager version?

Szymon

Hi Szymon,

Monitor Dell Gamer 27" G2722HS

Resolution: Full HD (1080p) 1920 x 1080 165hz

Thanks for a reply.
It appears to be an issue we are chasing, no resolution yet.
Based on investigation so far we identified it only happens when a monitor refresh rate is high. Would you be able to gradually decrease refresh rate and test if there is any improvement?

If it stops reproducing, it is not the final solution, however it would confirm we are discussing the same problem.

Szymon

Hi Szymon,

I gradually decreased and refresh rate and noticed an improvement, yes. It still has some lag using 50hz. However, it is much better than before.

Please let me know when you have a permanent solution for this error or if you need me to test anything else.

Regards,
Guilherme

Hi Guilherme,

Thank you very much for your tests and sharing the results.
As soon as we have a resolution we will share an update.
For reference it is tracked under VIFR-6184.

Hi Szymon,

How can I monitor the status of VIFR-6184?

Hi Guilherme,

Unfortunately, it is an internal issue tracker id, however when it's fixed we will mention it in the Release Notes of the release.

Szymon

Same issue is happening with M4 macbook and Xiaomi Mi monitor when it is over 60Hertz.
I'm using two monitors both 1440p resolution, where Dell monitor max refresh rate is 60Hz, while Mi monitor has option for 50, 60, 120 and 144.
When 120 and 144 refresh rate is selected animations lag, everything works fine with 50 and 60 Hz.
And in some cases selecting 144Hz is turning off the monitor, by selecting other refresh rates the monitor turns back on. It is not the case that Mi monitor is not shown in the Displays settings, it does not present any content on the screen.

Hi Szymon,

Do you have any updates regarding the fix?

Guilherme
