system sleep in display-closed mode does not work

Hi
I have a MacBook Air M1 2020 and a Dell D3100 docking station, which was the one that worked to connect with 2 monitors through display link. thanks DL for this feature it is very helpful and prevented me from throwing my monitors out of the window.

The only problem i still struggle with is that the system sleep in display closed mode does not work. I turn it off and close my macbook but my 2 monitors shut down as well and i would love to only use 2 monitors and prevent my macbook air to be on in a weird, place consuming position.

Does anyone have the same struggles and tries to find out how to solve it?

PS: i recently downloaded the graphics connectivity and also the support tool for macbook but nothing seems to work even after shutting down my computer.

Thanks for any advice!

My impressions based on your description are:

A. You have a Mac with a Dell D3100 connected to it
B. You have two monitors connected to the D3100
C. You would like to use your Mac with the laptop lid closed, and use only the two monitors connected to the D3100
D. When you close the lid of your Mac, the Mac goes to sleep and the two monitors connected to the D3100 stop working

Can you please confirm if my impressions are correct? If I am mistaken please feel free to correct me by using the item letters as a reference.

Thanks for the confirmation. In order to operate a Mac with the lid closed, you have to have an external power source connected to the Mac and an external keyboard and mouse connected to the Mac.

The Dell dock you are using does not provide power to the host computer. If you connect the Apple charger that Apple provided with your Mac to your Mac while connected to the dock, does that change the behavior?
