Sorry for all the posts, but the solution of rolling back to the June driver did not last - I am still having an issue, and am very frustrated, as I would really like to make use of my 2nd monitor. ...

Not gone, but....
Ok, reverting to the June driver has improved, but not eliminated the problem. At least, I can actually use my second screen, and reboot when it becomes a problem. A more permanent and complete...

I have done everything posted here, and still have an issue. Yes, it is with all USB ports. I would be grateful for any other solutions.

USB selective suspend setting
To clarify, what I did was change the USB selective suspend setting as outlined. The result was that I can at least use the linked screen for a period of time. However, it still does cut out...

disabling the USB power management settings
I tried the advice above, and it helped, but did not eliminate the problem. It made it usable, though over time, the linked screen does turn off. I can turn it back on by removing and reinserting...
