based on my troubleshooting, i think its a mixture of the model of mac and monitor. i have 2 of these adaptors, 2 macs both running ML. works perfectly on my 2 year old MBP but on 2 month old fully...

same problem for me too
same problem here too... use to have full 1920x1200, now limited to 1680x1050.
