there is a workaround, just connect the monitor to a usb hub and the hub to the surface. also, I don't know why JamesH keeps saying that v7.5 fixes this, not only it doesn't, it's not even mentioned...

It appears that rebooting the replicator solved the issue, however the main issue (USB 3.0 instability) was not addressed by this driver update, so my replicator is still unusable
