A similar (but not quite the same) situation...
A similar (but not quite the same) situation here.
I have 2 DELL 19" monitors, one via mini-DVI->DVI and the other via DisplayLink (a Kensington Dock with Video), connected to a MacBook (late 2006)...

I *am* using a hub (the DisplayLink chip is in a Kensington Dock with Video, I forget the model number but it has a USB hub/Ethernet/sound/etc and supports 1280x1024 VGA graphics out).
