Dear James,
My problem is that I cannot go through the steps in either of your links, as once I plug in the adapter(s) the PC tries to download my drivers, it normally fails in doing so, but I have a copy on the hard drive (a zip file called UGA_Driver_V7.2) and once that is installed the system immediately crashes, and the only way to get it working again is to restore it to a version before I plugged in the adpater and installed the software. Removing the adpater alone doesn't help, once it has been plugged in and the software installed the PC will crash regardless of whether I have subsequently removed the adapter. Only a system restore will help, and then all DisplayLink files are gone.
Since this behaviour shows up on both my PCs I am guessing it is not a problem related to a particular PC. The stationary PC is a FujitsuSiemens, the lap top is a Packard Bell.
Chris
