One additional item that I failed to mention is that I'm on my second "DisplayLink" component. Tech Support had the idea that perhaps the first component had gone bad and brought me a second.

In my mind this lends further proof that the problem is in the laptop in that a setup file or setting is not getting cleared or set properly.
