Thanks for sharing the good news, I had missed your message.
It's because there is a higher current needed when you start all the electronics. A USB monitor requires much more power than a graphics adapter as it needs to power the panel and backlight.
Some USB ports can provide all current needed whilst others cannot. By using the Y cable, you shared the current between the two ports.
It is sometimes enough to try on another port.
