Default XRandR failed: XRandR returned error code 1: X Error of failed request: BadValue (int

Downstream bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...g/+bug/1657903

What happens when using a StarTech device (Product ID: USB3SDOCKDD) with either the DisplayLink driver from StarTech's website (1.1.62), or the latest from DisplayLink's website (1.2.65), is when I attach the USB 3.0 cord to the USB 3.0 port on my laptop for the first time after a reboot, open arandr, open the StarTech.sh file, and click Apply, the Dell E2414Ht monitor VGA connected on the left is the primary and the laptop display is the secondary on the right.

However, if I disconnect the USB cord, then reconnect, and then re-apply the file, I get a pop up noting:

XRandR failed: XRandR returned error code 1: X Error of failed request:

Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 7 (RRSetScreenSize)
Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 42
Current serial number in output stream: 43

The two DisplayLink driver versions tested:

DisplayLink Linux Software 1.1.62 install script called:
Distribution discovered: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS

sudo displaylink-installer
DisplayLink Linux Software 1.2.65 install script called:

WORKAROUND: Restart the computer after disconnecting the USB cord.

Attached is the DisplayLink Linux support tool information as requested in:
