💻 Hardware & Software Setup:
• Docking Station: Wavlink
WL-UG69PD2 (DisplayLink-based)
• Mac Model: MacBookPro17,1 (13-inch, M1, 2020)
• macOS Version: macOS 15.4.1 (Sequoia)
• DisplayLink Manager Versions Tested:
• 1.10.3 (currently in use)
• 1.11.x
• 1.12.1 (latest available)
• Installation Method:
Between each version change, used DisplayLink macOS Installation Cleaner 1.0.0 for a clean installation.
• Permissions:
• DisplayLink Manager has been granted Full Disk Access under System Settings → Privacy & Security.
🐞 Problem Summary:
1. Image Quality Degradation (since 1.11)
• In all versions 1.11 and above, I consistently observe compression artifacts on DisplayLink-driven monitors.
• These appear as pixelation and color distortion, particularly during dynamic content changes.
• This was not an issue in version 1.10.3, where the image quality is excellent.
2. Freezes with version 1.10.3 on macOS 15
• After updating to macOS 15 Sequoia, DisplayLink Manager 1.10.3 began causing random freezes of external displays.
• The frozen image stays indefinitely until I manually restart DisplayLink Manager.
3. Random Disconnections with versions ≥ 1.11
• In newer versions (1.11+), aside from artifacts, the displays sometimes disconnect entirely.
• Occasionally shows the warning:
“Your screens have been stopped by the system. This can happen if the hard disk space is low. Please free up some space and re‑enable the screens using switches in Displays tab.”
• There is ample free space (>30 GB) on disk, so this message seems inaccurate.
• After disconnection:
• DisplayLink Manager icon may disappear or become unresponsive.
• Displays can sometimes be re-enabled via the DisplayLink UI—but will disconnect again eventually.
📄 Diagnostic Observations (version 1.10.3 on macOS 15.4.1):
Code:
#log show --predicate 'eventMessage contains "DisplayLink"' --info --last 1h:
sandboxd: [com.apple.sandbox.reporting:violation] Sandbox: DisplayLinkUserAgent deny(1) job-creation
sandboxd: [com.apple.sandbox.reporting:violation] Sandbox: DisplayLinkUserAgent deny(1) mach-lookup com.apple.cmio.registerassistantservice.system-extensions
→ Suggests sandbox restrictions may be interfering with normal operation.
✅ Ideal Behavior:
• Image quality as in version 1.10.3 (without compression artifacts)
• Stable external display performance on macOS 15 (no freezes or disconnects)
⸻
🙏 Questions & Request:
• Can compression be disabled or adjusted in newer versions?
• Are there any known issues with macOS 15.x Sequoia?
• Is there a planned fix for sandbox-related issues or display disconnections?
📎 Happy to share full logs, screenshots, or perform further testing with beta builds if needed. Clean installs were always performed using the official DisplayLink Cleaner 1.0.0, and the app is granted Full Disk Access.
Thanks in advance!
