Just a note that this is a Intel Windows 7 USB 3.0 host controller driver, that has been modified to install on Windows 8.
It won't work on non-Intel USB 3.0 host controllers.
Because it has been modified, it is unsigned. To install unsigned drivers on Windows 8, you have to do a few backflips.

Carminus - did this fix your issues?
We're also seeing many customers with USB 3.0 docking stations (like our UD-3000
http://plugable.com/products/UD-3000) for whom the docking station doesn't appear reliably on the USB bus on USB 3.0 on Windows 8 -- but does work perfectly when attached with USB 2.0. And this is only with Windows 8 machines. It appears to be a problem with USB 3.0 updates that Microsoft deployed right around the time of Windows 8's release (since they weren't seen earlier in the pre-release cycle).
We'd love to provide solutions to our customers for this, but hate to point users at an unsigned driver package that replaces the Microsoft one on Windows 8 -- but right now the only alternative is plugging into a USB 2.0 port or using a USB 2.0 cable, which causes everything to drop into USB 2.0 mode and work fine.
Thanks for anyone else who can chime in here with their experiences!
