I would like to purchase a USB adapter to use with my MacBookPro 2010 to drive a 1920x1200. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and will be using the external monitor for browsing and coding apps.

Every DVI or HDMI DisplayPort adapter eventually causes OSX crashes when I try to use one on this monitor or even a HDTV. Running a DisplayPort VGA adapter works fine.

I hope a USB one would also, but I am confused as to what to buy. Would an adapter rated at 2048x1152 drive a 1920x1200 monitor? Any recommendations
