Default Recommended refresh rate and drivers question for Wavlink WL-UG7501DH-PD

Hello, I just purchased and installed a DL 7400 Displaylink adapter. I have. total of 5 external monitors now working with my M4 MacBook Pro equipped with the M4Pro chipset. 2 monitors are connected natively but 3x32" 2k monitors are connected to the new Displaylink adapter (1 by HDMI and 2 by DP). I have them all running at their max refresh rates which is 75hz on 2 of them and 100hz on on the other. The 100hz one uses the HDMI connection because that monitor only has a DP and USB-C port. I have been told to only run them at 60hz but does that advice only apply to the older Displaylink adapters with the DL-6XXX chips and not the new ones equipped with the newer DL-7400 chip?

Also, Wavlink has a different looking driver for this adapter on their website but I am using the latest generic driver from the Synaptic site. I assume I am using the correct one?

Hello,

DL-7xxx is a newer chipset family allowing higher refresh rates compared to DL-6xxx, hence 75Hz, 100Hz and above can be offered for higher resolutions, e.g. 4K. General rule of thumb is that DisplayLink devices filter out monitor modes outside of its supported spec, so the fact your monitors light up at certain refresh rate means all is good.

Some manufacturers of DisplayLink products don't always host the latest version of the drivers until they qualify certain version. That's why on Synaptics website you can often find newer version of the drivers.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Szymon
