WavLink WL-UG7500 - supported in VMs?

Title says it all. I managed to get it working -somewhat- but am having trouble with other setups.

Hardware and software: Dell R810 server and Shuttle SH110R4 desktop. The Dell uses an embedded Matrox G200ew for its service display while the Shuttle's is an i915 (Intel).

Both platforms use xcp-ng 8.3 as the hypervisor. Both have WavLink WL-UG7500DH (DisplayLink DL7400/NA16) cards installed.

A Windows 11 Pro VM on the Dell comes up flawlessly, showing all displays connected. A Linux Mint 22.3 system with latest evdi and DisplayLink drivers (6.3) will come up on the Shuttle but only when running Wayland. It displays connected monitors and shows them in Display Settings.

Put the same Mint 22.3 VM on the Dell and you cannot run Wayland due to conflicts with the Matrox chipset, Wayland and the bochs-drm virtual display driver. So X11 it is...and no matter what I cannot get output to the connected monitors. Most times the Xorg.0.log shows "No monitors listed" for DVI-I-1-1 through DVI-I-4-4 and no EDID outputs in the log file.

I have a conf file which forces the modesetting driver, all cards load it and xrandr outputs all providers - but you cannot set the providers with the --setprovideroutputsource argument (returns BadValue). Similarly, no monitors are detected other than the virtual display.

Anyone else play with this card yet in Linux - and what were your experiences?
