Thumbs up RDP Client Problems / Wierd Screen Scaling

Hi there,

Started a new thread for maybe a bug. Just to be clear this is the desktop RDP client that is invoked by mstsc.exe at a command line. Before windows 8.1 I was able top use the setting "use all my monitors" in the client and stretch by desktop across displays. I can no longer do this now. I have made sure that the setting is on and I think it might be the weird scaling issue I also see causing this and not display link. Its weird your support tool creates a file all good but - I cannot attach it to the forum as it wants to browse the file as a folder in Win 8.1.

I was having an issue with scaling myself.

I have a 13.3" Laptop and two 22" monitors, all 1080P.
Windows 8.1 was trying (and failing) to scale the two 22" Monitors connected via my Display Link Laptop Dock.
The issue is that Windows 8.1 is trying to make the windows all the same physical size based off of physical screen size and resolution (pixel density).
Google does a similar thing on Android (see DP)

To disable the (broken) screen scaling do the following:
Note that you will be required to log out for the changes to take effect
Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display
Put a check on "Let me choose one scaling for all my displays"
Then set the "Change the size of all items" to "Smaller - 100%"
Click Apply
(you may have to do it twice for it to work)

As for your problems with RDP:
I have not had the same problems, but then again I didn't try until I got the scaling disabled.

Default thanks but mouse pointer problem now!!

That really helps and fixes my RDP over multiscreen issue - however I lose my mouse pointer. Crazy part is - if I'm in the RDP window I have a pointer - if on the local machine can't see the pointer on desktop or modern UI. I can tell the mouse is moving because of context changes has it moves over buttons and links.

I am attaching the output of my displayport diagnostiscs app.

Hi,

I've just confirmed that the RDP over multiscreen option works for me but I'm not seeing a missing mouse cursor.

When the cursor disappeared was the RDP window maximised on one of the displays or just in a 'window'?

Apart from the multiscreen option is there anything else that you might have changed in the RDP options?

What make + model mouse do you have? Is it wired or wireless?

I've noticed that I don't have the 8.1 Pro version installed so I'll try that.

Thanks,
James

Default Rdp

My mouse cursor disappears when I follow the instructions of the user that responded below my initial posts. Its gone the whole time. Except when I full screen my rdp window. If I uncheck my changes I get the cursor back - but cannot use RDP across multiple monitors then.

Hi,

Can you let me know:

What resolution your Surface and HP monitor are set to when this happens
What make, model & connection type of mouse you are using
Is the Surface the primary display and is the HP display extending?

Thanks,
James
