Default Sabrent USB-HRHD (DisplayLink DL-195 Chipset)

Hello,
I purchased this device (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815276031) and it claimed to be compatible with old CRT monitors, so I tried to hook up the HDMI to DVI adapter to a DVI to D-SUB (VGA) adapter, and I just get a standby screen on the monitor, I can confirm the device works using a DVI monitor, but I originally purchased it thinking I could hook up a VGA monitor.

Does anyone have any info on how I can get this working? I contacted Sabrent but they wanted my to call a long distance number and I doubt they can help anyways unless they have some specialized HDMI to D-SUB converter.

So thought I would ask here.

"The Sabrent USB-HRHD USB Display Adapter is the easiest and most effective way to add additional monitors to a PC or Intel-based MAC, desktop or notebook. You can add any LCD, TV, Projector, even old CRTs, via DVI, HDMI. After installing the software, simply insert the USB cable into your computer and you can add up to 6 of these units to one computer (One Display Adapter is require for each added Display)."

I suspect that the signal that is output by that device is a digital signal... if that's the case, it will only drive monitors that are capable of receiving HDMI or DVI signals... including CRTs, but not CRTs that have an analog VGA port.

Perhaps others can comment, but you might be better off returning that device. I do not think it will work with your old CRT VGA monitor.

You don't mention if this is a laptop or a desktop... if it's a desktop and you can buy a video card that is capable of outputting a VGA signal. If it's a laptop/desktop and you have an HDMI output, you can get something like the items below:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00879DM56

Be wary that the quality with these cheaper adapters might not be excellent at higher resolutions, and be aware of any compatibility disclaimers on the product pages.

HDMI does not output VGA. The digital HDMI signals are TMDS signals. These are the same for HDMI and DVI, so a passive HDMI to DVI converter will turn HDMI into DVI. However there is no VGA signals so the DVI to VGA converter will not work.

This will not work, unless you have an HDMI to VGA converter, which is an active converter to convert the digital HDMI signals into analog VGA.
