Default Unsigned drivers in DisplayLink 7.9 M4

I am unable to successfully install DisplayLink 7.9 M4 due to Windows 7 complaining about unsigned drivers. Installing M3 doesn't give me the same problem.

Hi,

Can you try installing the latest Windows Updates for Windows 7?

If you're still having issues after that please attach the output of this tool

Thanks,
James

Hi,

No I cannot install the latest updates for Windows since I am using a corporate computer, and access to windows update is restricted by a group policy.

Besides I am not sure I understand how updating windows will solve the problem that DisplayLink are shipping unsigned drivers? Just sign the drivers and release an updated version of the M4 installer.

BR,
Joel

Default Error

Seeing the exact same issue but not on every install. No issue with 7.9M3.

Joel,
DisplayLink drivers are signed. We don't/cannot put unsigned drivers on Windows Update and 7.9 M4 is the same package as used in Windows Update for Windows 10.
Our drivers used to be signed TWICE. By us, then by Microsoft.
Microsoft advised us to stop signing because their signature was enough. So we did.

By updating, you will get Microsoft way of checking digital signatures (certificates most likely) which they probably changed since you last got a cumulative security patch.

If we sign, then we hit another Microsoft bug on Windows 10 which forces computers which don't have the zero day package (or later security patch) into recovery mode because the way of checking the signatures has an issue with dates.

Error message: Windows requires a digitally signed driver

OK. that explains it. Too bad you cannot give me a KB number to look for as I am unable to update this system by myself and updates are only pushed out by the system administrator.
