Hi,
i have a new Lenovo Edge E530 notebook with an i5 CPU running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit and a brand new Targus USB3.0 Supper Speed docking station. Installed DisplayLink software version is 7.0 final. To my surprise i discovered yesterday that the installed driver version for the USB Display-Adapters (Device Manager) are: - DisplayLink Display Adapter (4306): 6.3.40660.0 - Targus USB 3.0 DV Docking Station: 6.3.40660.0 not the expected 7.xxx.something version. I tried an online driver update, but nothing has changed. Does the new V7.0 software still use V6.3 drivers or what is going on ? |

A new problem came up yesterday after i updated to the latest version of the Intel 4000 graphics driver from the Intel download side, after the device driver Utility from Intel suggested an update to the latest driver version. After that the USB 3.0 docking station no longer was recognized but was listed in the device manager as an "unknown USB device". Un- and reinstalling the latest DisplayLink driver V7.0M0 did not work this time.
All in all this seems to be a very unstable configuration situation, because every small change in the driver environment renders the device practically useless. I had to get to great length to have it up and running at all from the start (took me almost a whole week) and every upcoming change or driver update revives that same situation again... |

The USB video driver (under USB Display Adapters) is a very small part of our software and does not need to change, and be resigned by Microsoft, between releases. This is why the version number of the USB driver might not change between releases.
If it is coming up as an Unknown device, then Windows is not able to read the USB descriptors from the device. This can be due to older USB 3.0 host controllers. If you are on USB 3.0, please check you have the latest host controller driver installed (can be found here) or see if the same problem occurs on USB 2.0. Worth power cycling the whole dock aswell before trying this, to make sure everything is reset into a known state. Wim |
