I do not think I am booting in 64 bit modeI am assuming this is not a default setting as I do not remember ever changing this.
Macintosh-74:~ tim$ uname -m i386 So I guess I am in 32bit mode. My computer used to hang when I unplugged one of the external monitors or lock up on boot if the external monitors were not hooked up. I would have to boot into safe mode and uninstall the displaylink drivers. then reinstall them when I went back to my desk and I wanted to use the external monitors. Basically I think what crashed it it before was when the video mode changed from nvidia to intel with the display link drivers installed. I have a 24 inch monitor on the built in external display port, and a 20 inch (rotated to be vertical) on the Displaylink USB device. I could get around the issue if I remembered to move my menu bar to the built in display on the powerbook, but I never remembered to this. I am running 10.6.4 with all patches and the firmware patch. It seems to have eliminated the booting lock up if display is not connected, and the crash if I unplug the displays while the computer is on.
