Hi James -
First thanks for your help, it is appreciated. I followed all the steps you outlined and I continue to get the same error when trying to install Displaylink "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable....enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'DisplayLinkCore.msi' in the box below" I hit "cancel" Then I get this error: "The older version of Display Link Core cannot be removed." Any suggestions? |

James / Anyone:
I just ran into the same problem. It occurred when windows update attempted to install updated driver software. I had the original software on my HDD, however it is in the form of an .exe file - so pointing the setup program to that location did not work. I attempted to cancel the update and the same message appeared about not being able to uninstall the older version. My unit is now bricked and useless. Any help would be appreciated. |

MURPH - try using a file archiver like 7Zip to see if you can extract files from the .exe - not all executables are true executables, some are, in fact, archived files with installer scripts and such, and you may luck out and fine the needed .MSI file in it.
To be safe, make a copy of the file that you have before attempting extracting. I'm not saying that it is going to work - I'm just saying give it a try, you might get lucky. |
