win 8.1 upgrade - broken system

This issue has beaten me, I can't uninstall or install the displaylink software.
This was a completely working system under Win 8.0, and the 8.1 upgrade killed it.
Can I provide any further information than that contained in my original post?

BTW when I wrote "Read the support doc" in meant "I read the support doc" (Just in case I sounded rude
