I am having the same problem. On 16.04 it was bearable but on 16.10 it is nearly unusable. The display update is much slower than my typing. If I have a monitor plugged in then Ubuntu won't boot at all. I have to plug the monitor after Ubuntu is booted.

dmesg is showing warnings

This is the same thing I'm seeing with Mint 18 on 1.2.65 driver. Very slow response to typing, highlighting with mouse, dropdown menus, etc, etc. Makes it very challenging to work efficiently.

For working it is definitively enough. May not enough for playing.

Erm...sorry...but 1fps isn't good enough for working by any means. Typing in the terminal becomes guess work, and Chrome is only usable if hardware acceleration is disabled. And dragging windows around shows notable artefacts.

As I have posted at http://displaylink.org/forum/showpos...1&postcount=34 I can see 1 frame per second only by using OpenGL. Outside of it, I can work. Chrome, terminal etc. everything works. But any OpenGL game would be impossible to play.
