Interesting.
Are you using 2.4 Ghz or 5 GHz WLAN? We have observed interference between USB 3.0 signals and 2.4 GHz in the past. 2.4 GHz is also used by quite a few wireless mice and keyboards. In this case, you could check by testing with a USB 2.0 cable and then use a longer, good quality (so good shielding), USB 3.0 cable to put more distance between the dock and laptop.
