No ethernet - 17.04 - Dell 3000 dock

The ethernet functionality is handled by upstream kernel cdc_ncm driver, do you see any signs of things going wrong in your dmesg log?

When it was working the eth interface was named "usb0" so this looks normal except the interface isn't present.

Well judging from the log, the interface has been renamed from usb0 to enx00249b0b2eee. What does 'ip a' show?

You're right, it shows up there and in ifconfig when i use -a. Not a displaylink issue. Thanks,.
