evdi driver installs but apparently not being used

Your device is not driven by the driver that uses evdi - this is only used by newer devices based on DL-3xxx/5xxx chips. You don't need to install anything at all.

udl is available in the kernel sources, should you need to examine what's happening, or diagnose problems.
