There's no stupid question!
We only present one audio device to the computer. We then do the sound distribution within our chip in the docking station. I'm talking about the DisplayLink chip in the docking station. Reading again your first post, the manufacturer implemented "headphone privacy" mode. When you add the headphones, it is detected and disables the other outputs. That behaviour is factory programmed by the manufacturer and cannot be amended by software. Do you have another audio jack on the product. If so, that second audio jack is likely NOT to cut other outputs, but again, that's hardcoded, you cannot select via software. The behaviour will be the same on all operating systems.
