Differences between Dell Docks w.r.t. Chipsets / Specs Etc.

I "guess" what I'm asking is what is the mapping between Dell hardware (easy to buy and supported by work) and DisplayLink chipsets?

Dell does not appear to provide information regarding which specific DisplayLink chipset is used within their various docking station products.

With that said, you can use the information provided by DisplayLink in regard to the maximum resolution supported by each chipset --> https://support.displaylink.com/know...lution-support combined with the information contained within each docking station's manual to extrapolate what chipset is in use.

If pressed to guess, the D3000 and D3100 are based on the DL-3xxx series of chipsets. The D6000 is based on the DL-6xxx series of chipsets. The model numbers also seem to suggest they originated from the chipset version used.

The D22 dock is less clear in terms of its model number, however the capabilities described in the manual --> https://dl.dell.com/content/manual84...language=en-us would suggest it uses a DL-6xxx series chipset.

As to what to buy, I can only offer my personal opinion, which is if what you presently have meets your needs, then there is no need to change it. But again, that's just my opinion :-)
