Hello CatalogueK9,
Since you mention that you did not activate the “Treat as generic third-party display” option, it is highly unlikely that the damage occurred from BetterDisplay. In addition, since the screen momentarily booted a few times (e.g. in Safe Mode), it does not look like permanent damage to the matrix or monitor electronics. What you can do is to check another miniDP-DP cable or the port on the docking station in order to rule out a possible problem with the physical connection. You can also restore a previous version of DisplayLink driver (1.11), if you installed the latest one. If your problem still is not solved, please gather some more data and send it to our team by following these steps.

My concern is that updating the DisplayLink Manager driver with the DDC controls might have caused some issues with my monitor, not Better Display; Better Display was just what brought to my attention the idea that such a thing was possible. Of course, it would be next to impossible to distinguish between the initial issue and any potential lingering issues caused by something like this; it's just another background concern bouncing around in my head while I wait for a fix.
I have downgraded to various older versions, including on my son's older laptop, in hopes that a combination of older MacOS and DisplayLink drivers would restore previous functionality, but that didn't work, either. I don't have another cable, port, or docking station to test. |
