Apple LED 24" Cinema display mini diplayport to hdmi into displaylink

I use Apple LED 27" Cinema display at home with a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter to DisplayLink which delivers a rock solid connection. In my overall experience I tested plenty of different adapters and they can really differ in quality. Therefore in your case this should be the first suspect to investigate I believe.
