MacBookAir i7 OSX Lion Performance Woes

Hi, I've tried the latest beta drive 4, but my MacBook Air i7 still suffers a considerable slowdown even when the 2nd monitor is disconnected.

The only solution being is to uninstall the driver.

Is it possible to have the installation/uninstallation process not require a system reboot.

Or at least deactivate the driver to avoid slowdowns when the 2nd monitor isn't plugged in?

Please?

I'm considering getting a MBA + two USB screens -- could I ask for more details from you?

-- Did you resolve this issue already?
-- Can you list all of the displays that you have connected and when the slowdown occurs?

e.g. It sounds like:

(1) MBA Attached Display
(2) Display connected via thunderbolt/VGA
(3) Display connected via USB <-- Slowdowns happen at this step

-- or was it:

(1) MBA Attached Display
(2) Display connected via USB
(3) Display connected via USB <-- Slowdowns happen at this step

Hey Eddie, It's a pure install driver issue.

If I have no external monitors attached, it runs slow.
As soon as I uninstall the driver, my MacBook Air runs fine.

Like several others, I've been forced to uninstall the DisplayLink driver entirely to regain reasonable graphics performance. Once the iOS 5 update rush abates and I'm able to install the 10.7.2 update, I'll give the driver another try and report back.

10.7.2 seems to have resolved the issue. Obviously we're never going to see performance comparable to a hardware GPU with a simple USB adapter and software display driver, but I'm back to using dual 22" displays with my new MBA, and the performance is quite acceptable.

Okay, 10.7.2 isn't a complete fix. I've provided more detail in the other thread linked in the post above.

I agree with this - 10.7.2 is NOT a complete fix. It appears to work better, but in reality, the problem returns - just in a less consistent fashion.

Just got my MacBook Air Core i7 yesterday, and I can confirm cairo’s report: Sluggish display on both the primary DisplayPort monitor as well as the DisplayLink monitor on 10.7.1.

Update: But! Just installed 10.7.2 and it seems significantly faster. I’d call it near-native speed on my primary monitor, and not too much worse on my DisplayLink screen.

Things are looking up.
