Do all devices use the same displaylink software?

We have a Lenovo dock that uses the displaylink software to display to an additional monitor via usb. It is using the displaylink v7.4 for Windows 8.1. We want another device for a user who travels a smaller usb to vga type device. They purchased one before that did not use the displaylink software and it caused compatibility issues. I am trying to find if one of these other devices will work better?
