Dell D3100 on Linux ESXi Guest with no PCI graphics card

I read today that "The new DisplayLink driver (udldrmfb) piggy backs off your graphics card" (http://superuser.com/questions/92958...setting-driver)

- what if my only other graphics card is a ESXi fake graphics card?

I wasp lanning to use the D3100 docking station with PCI passthrough on the USB3 interface of the ESXi host so that the guest would have full access to the docking station and to it's video adaptors.

There will be no PCI graphics card for udl/evdi to use.

Is this likely to fail for me?

This post http://support.displaylink.com/knowl...r-on-install-o also suggests that I need a real hardware graphics card to use the new displaylink adaptors and will not be able to use it in an ESXi guest.

I may be stuck with my old 17e9:01d4 series 1 DisplayLink adaptor, and 16 bit colour.

But maybe I'll be OK using fbdev driver on a linux ESXi guest?
