DisplayLink Driver 1.4 causes system crash

I am running a fresh Xubuntu 17.10 install and the displaylink driver causes a full system crash:

I tried the workarounds form here, but non of them worked:

I hope somebody can help me out.

X-Version is:

Version: 1:7.7+19ubuntu3
DL-Device: MB169B+
