Gigabit port not working
Hello, new to these forums but I've read 2 other threads on a similar subject with no success, I've downloaded your beloved debugger tool and will attach the resulting .zip file. I'm a tech at a MSP, I've got one client who's using some slim notebook with the Targus 3.0 acp70uz. She can't get her ethernet adapter to work. It shows as "network cable unplugged". I've uninstalled, reinstalled, assured the drivers were up to date, tried changing the adapter advanced settings, tried rebooting, power cycling, replacing the ethernet cable with a known good one. Can't get it to go, the port lights don't ever flash. I'm suspecting a bad NIC, but I'm hoping someone can decipher these logs and tell me I'm dumb and missed something obvious:

Hello,
The link negotiation is low level and not done by the driver. Logs don't include this. The box tells Windows about the cable through the standard way. The fact the network adapter is present in Windows means the driver is installed correctly. I checked and the Targus Giga Ethernet seems fine in Device Manager, and in Network_Statistics.txt it is alive and well, just Media Disconnected. I'm afraid it's a hardware issue: - Issue with the NIC PHY, - Issue with the cable or port, - Trying to use non Full Duplex connection. Kind regards, Alban

I'll have to check and see if they're operating on a switch that forced half duplex or something, thanks.
I knew the drivers were right, because like you said, the damned thing shows up. I'll post what I find on here in case it can help someone else out in the future. |
