Default Why limit of 4 displaylink displays / mac?

Hi DisplayLink & Community,

-- Does anyone know why the hard limit of four displays was set?

-- Are there any plans to change this hard limit?

History: When I got my first DisplayLink monitor (2011/ThinkGeek sold me a Mimo Monitor) back in Tiger, on an old 2007 MBP, the driver docs stated there was a hard limit of four displays. Back then, Core 2 Duo machines were limited, as were the USB 2.0 connection, and the capability of the machines to supply more power than "allowed" by the USB specification. Today, we have Mountain Lion and machines with i5 chips and USB 3.0 ports that will happily supply additional power, even to existing USB 2 devices. As a consumer, it is not obvious to me that there is a technological need for a hard limit of four devices anymore.
