Default 1GB Ethernet Speed

Hello -

I have the Lenovo USB 3.0 dock, which uses the DL-3000 series chips with the integrated 1GB ethernet adapter. What's strange though, is that I'm only able to get between 25-40MB/sec, which would lead me to believe that while it's a 1GBe adapter on a USB 3.0 dock, maybe the USB ethernet adapter inside the dock is actually only USB 2.0?

Can anyone confirm or deny that? It's not the end of the world, but with the USB 3.0 technology, I was excited about the proposition of moving large files like movies ISO images at or near 1GBE speeds on our network.

Thanks,

- Jeff

It is USB 3.0 Ethernet. The next software release, 7.2 will have a newly architected Ethernet driver that should significantly increase Ethernet performance.

Jeff, did you get improvement on the Lenovo USB3 Dock for ethernet speed? I'm only getting 29MB/s max on it with my Thinkpad Helix.

My cpu usage also go up a lot when I'm transferring huge files..

I can reach around 70-80MB/s with the same docking station and latest drivers (win7 x64).

@jim8: Do you get a better speed with other ethernet controllers?
edit: ok you mentioned it on another thread already

I'm running Win8 pro x64. I'm considering that it may be that Windows 8 and driver issues are causing the problems.

I've tried replacing the Microsoft USB3 drivers (by default and hard to replace) w/ Intel drivers, which is a complex set of steps, but then it did not detect the dock and I had to restore my system for the dock to detect/work.

Unfortunately this is a very hard problem for me to resolve since it seems rare that people fully use gigabit network to it's potential and would notice it's not fully working, and that are also using the dock with Win8x64, AND on a Thinkpad Helix.. so not many people who have the same set of conditions.

Weird, apparently when I copy a file from my Helix TO my NAS, the speed is around 70MB/s.. however the speed is under 30MB/s if the file is being copied FROM the NAS..

On my Thinkpad x61t, it averages 80MB/s+ when copying to or from the NAS.
