Question Dell XPS 13 with Dell/Targus SuperSpeed USB3.0 Dock

Hi,

I'm having a problem with DisplayLink on the following:

Dell XPS 13 with Dell/Targus SuperSpeed USB3.0 Dock

Windows 8 Pro x64

The DisplayLink software has just stopped working, it runs in the background but you can never see the icon in the notification area. The dual screens attached to the Dock do not work and are not recognised by the laptop.

I have uninstalled DisplayLink and installed the latest version 7.7 M3 with the same results.

The rest of the dock works.. the mouse and keyboard etc are fine.

I did a system restore to a time that it was working and that made no difference. Updated displaylink again still no effect.

When I have been updating I've been fully uninstalling, rebooting, installing, rebooting.

I have tried to manually open the software from program files. Nothing happens. don't see any events in the event log about it either. Seems to be running from looking at task manager.

If anyone could help that would be great?

Default Targus dock stopped working

I have two Targus USB 3.0 docks that have both done the same. They were working with the latest drivers, then seemingly randomly the graphics outputs stopped working (but can still be used as USB 2.0/3.0 hubs etc.) Very frustrating.

Could it be that the latest driver has taken a while to update the firmware and broken the display part of the dock?

Are you using Windows 8 also?

It is very frustrating, I haven't heard anything from DisplayLink support etc. Maybe a Windows update that has broken it if it happens at the same time?

I tried rolling back all of the updates and even using older versions of the DisplayLink software. Hopefully a member of support will be able to resolve this soon.

Default XPS13 and D3000

I have the same issue.

Two XPS13s that were working fine on D3000.

Video and LAN no longer work and Windows doesn't see the dock but it does still manage to run a USB mouse and Keyb.

Have also bee through the DL uninstall, run cleaner, install latest DL software scenario all to no avail...

Come on DL: Help us out!

posted this on another thread:

I had the same issue with my 2 monitors not working a few weeks ago (using driver from november, not the current latest) on my D3000 with my 8.1 laptop.

I tried the same steps but was only able to get it working after unplugging the power from the dock, then plugging it back in and then connecting the USB to the computer.

When I plugged it in it said it was updating the dock. Not sure if this is the same for you. My other dock worked but also said it was updating the dock when I plugged it in.

have you tried power cycling the dock?

I've unplugged everything from the dock and connected up to a freshly booted machine but I don't have an external power source for the dock.

Default Denial

DL simply blame the hardware the dock is connected too and want nothing further to do with it. I pointed out there are people all over the forums from all over the world that all of a sudden have the same issue but their support remain adamant that all of our hardware has failed. I hooked up my users without it which isn't ideal but keeps them going for now and will look for an alternative not based on DL software.

I have the same issue as Molds, they blame the hardware but it is obvious that if many people's docks all over the world fail at the same time that it is a software issue. Pretty poor show really.

I gave up and replaced it with:

Kensington USB 3.0 Dual Docking Station (sd3500v)

This one uses DisplayLink and actually works so figure that out.
